Bloch: “Somebody suggested that it [Blood Runs Cold] might benefit from a transfusion by Alfred Hitchcock. As I was now supplying stories and scripts for his television show and he had done rather well out of this deal with me on Psycho, it was assumed he might be willing to do an introduction to my collection. The assumption was correct. His company, Shamley Productions, promptly advised my publishers that Mr. Hitchcock would be most happy to have his ghostwriter, Jimmy Allardice, furnish a one-thousand-word introduction to which Hitch would sign his name for one thousand dollars. Inasmuch as my advance payment for the entire collection only amounted to $750, my literary agent regretfully declined.”
